Susan Jennings King
Susan Jennings King (born 1954) of Dayville, Oregon, prefers to be working her cattle more than anything in the world. Anything. Her children took on as ranch hands, starting at age four, and were better help, she says, than most adults. King says the most important quality a rancher can possess is “cow sense,” understanding how a cow thinks – and every cow thinks differently. She laments the increasing incursions of government agencies. A business that has her hanging by a thread is even more tenuous. But King says there’s nothing in the world she would rather do than to throw her leg over her horse and get in among the cattle. Interviewed Arock, Oregon, 1993
