Jonnie, Champion Bullrider
Jonnie Jonckowski (born 1954) is widely considered to be one of the best bull riders to have competed on the international circuit, male or female. She became the Women’s World Champion Bullrider in 1986 and again in 1988. Jonckowski succeeded in persuading officials to allow women’s bull riding at Cheyenne Frontier Days in 1988, after a fifty-two-year absence of women riding rough stock. Jonckowski was inducted into the Cowgirl Hall of Fame in 1991. She is proudest of her success in re-establishing women’s presence in rough stock events at rodeos. Interviewed Billings, Montana, 1997
